Job Description

Minimum starting salary of $110,000.  The salary range will be commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.  An exceptional fringe benefit package is included.  The successful candidate will receive a four-year probationary appointment. 

 

Job Description:

The principal is responsible to the Superintendent for educational leadership in his/her school and for the efficient administration of overall school operations.  He/she shall be responsible for and have authority over the actions of the students, professional and nonprofessional employees, visitors, and persons employed to perform special tasks in his/her school.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1.  As educational advisor to the Superintendent, the principal shall:
  1.    Make regular reports regarding the condition of his/her school and the activities therein.
  2.    Keep the Superintendent informed as to the operating effectiveness of existing policies and procedures.
  3.    Assist the Superintendent when called upon in the development of policy and in the administration of employee contracts.
  4.    Submit Annual Report to the Superintendent/Board of Education by the end of the second week of July.

 

  1. As educational leader, the principal shall within his/her school:
  1.    Supervise and evaluate the instructional program.
  2.    Schedule, supervise and evaluate the professional personnel assigned to his/her building.
  3.    Support and assist the Instructional Coaching program.
  4.    Support the revision of curriculum and the selection of books and materials.
  5.    Analyze the student and staff achievement data to better inform instructional decisions.
  6.    Lead the recruitment, selection, and assignment of professional personnel for his/her building.
  7.    Be responsible for the culture of the building, including all staff, through proper distribution of the workload and to ensure that each person under his/her authority has a clear-cut understanding of his/her job.
  8.    Coordinate with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to provide professional development to staff as needed.
  9.    Lead and support the Department Chairpersons in the development and implementation of their goals, which are aligned to the district goals.
  10.  Coordinate curriculum improvement goals and activities with chairpersons.
  11.  Lead the recruitment, assignment, and evaluation of teaching assistants and secretarial personnel for his/her building. 
  12. Be responsible, with input from the faculty, for promotion or retention of all students within his/her school. 
  13. Coordinate the development and use of a system for reporting student progress to parents. 
  14. Handle discipline, including suspensions, detentions, and recommendations to both teachers and students involved. 
  15. Oversee per diem substitutes, including the collection and dissemination of plans. 
  16. Conduct substitute teacher interviews and maintain a current list. 
  17. Develop teacher schedules with the assistance of counselors and chairpersons and submit for approval by the Superintendent. 
  18.  Update student and faculty handbooks and submit for approval by the Superintendent by September 1 annually. 
  19. Assist the Superintendent and Business Manager with facilities improvement planning. 
  20. Coordinate student teacher placement with college officials and chairpersons.
  21. The Middle-High School Principal assumes the duties of Superintendent in his/her absence with assistance and concurrence from the Elementary Principal and Business Manager. 
  22. Attend all meetings of the Board of Education and serve as resource person to the Board of Education and Superintendent. 
Job Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • NYS school administrator certification (SAS, SDA, SBL, or SDBL)
  • NYS teaching certification
  • Strong oral and written communicator and team player
  • Familiarity and experience with curriculum development, instruction, assessment, and data analysis.
  • Ability to work with groups; articulate a vision; and develop consensus.
  • Understanding of instructional strategies and staff development techniques.
